Ray became a blues “convert”, joining “The Gary Bernath Blues Band” following a career with mostly rock and roll bands in the 1980’s. Gary Bernath instantly developed a fondness for Ray’s no nonsense approach to playing blues and his easygoing manner. Together with Guitarist Pete Henderson, the last Bernath Blues Band was one of the best grouping of musicians dedicated to playing the blues in the Boston area, and Ray was always the rock in the rhythm section, with an uncanny ability to play exactly what a song called for.
